Creating Space for Community

We're delighted to announce an exciting new chapter for our community.
We are delighted to announce that Tathagata Meditation Center has acquired a parcel of land adjacent to our current property at 1148 Roberts Avenue in San Jose. The newly purchased lot at 1156 Roberts Avenue, spanning just over half an acre, is an essential part in developing our center and supporting the growing
needs of our Dhamma community.

Prior to this purchase, we had been planning to build new Sangha quarters and a new dormitory for female yogis on our current properties at 1138 and 1148 Roberts Avenue. We are in the process of applying for a construction permit, but it has been more complex and costly than we expected — due to rising construction costs and the historic status of the old house located on Roberts Avenue. We are now working with a property historian to determine whether demolition and new construction will be permitted.

In the middle of this process, we learned that the neighboring property at 1156 Roberts Avenue, the final piece of land that we have long hoped to acquire in order to complete our center, was available. We reached out to the owner and were able to purchase it for $1,785,000. The total cost came to $1,793,000, including escrow and related fees.

With the new acquisition at 1156 Roberts Avenue, our center now forms a complete rectangle over three acres, situated between Lucretia Avenue and a quiet park, making it an even more ideal space for meditation. However, due to the cost of this purchase, we have had to delay our plans for building the new female yogi dormitory. Instead, we plan to remodel the current property at 1148 Roberts Avenue into new Sangha quarters.

Our immediate goal is to raise funds for the new land and the remodeling project for the Sangha quarters. We have divided the land into 20,000 “lots.” Each lot is valued at $100. We welcome you to donate as many lots as you can.

Everything we have built so far would not have been possible without your ongoing donations. We hope you will continue to support us as we develop the center for the benefit of all yogis.

If you would like to contribute to this project, please complete the donation form and send it back to us, or donate directly online via Zelle or PayPal.

With so much gratitude for your kindness and generosity. May you be well, happy, and peaceful,

With metta,
Tathagata Meditation Center
