We replaced our deck with a patio last year and it completely changed how we use the yard. The original deck needed constant repairs, so we decided a concrete surface would be easier to maintain. Since we live in Beaverton Oregon, durability and drainage were the biggest priorities. While researching companies I found a page about a concrete contractor in Portland OR that explained the types of services contractors provide, including decorative patios and structural work. That helped me understand the process better before talking with contractors. The team we hired focused heavily on preparing the base and ensuring the patio had the correct slope for water runoff. They also suggested a decorative finish which added a lot of character to the space. Now the patio feels solid, looks great, and requires almost no maintenance compared to the old deck. If you’re planning something similar, I’d definitely ask about base preparation and drainage because those are the things that determine whether the patio stays in good shape for many years.
